Bent is an exhibition of diverse works from three emerging Texas artists. All works in the show employ variations on traditional photographic techniques.
These artworks address the question of what it means to be a photographer. All artists in the show work photography into their individual image making processes. Photography is demonstrated here as both the source and the outcome. For some of the showing artists photography is the means to an end, for other it is the end product itself.
The works in this show have a common air of whimsical youthfulness, yet a feeling of sophistication and skill are accomplished. These artists are using photography in a way that suggests a recollection of past events translated with a sense of style that seems relevant to a fresh generation.
Bent is a unique show to Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery. This exhibition not only includes a nontraditional approach to photography; it provides an opportunity for young unknown artists to display their talents in a reputable arena.
The show is composed of mixed media works by Baseera Khan, Marc Montoya, and Lizzy Wetzel, and has been curated by Ben Hancock. All are art students or recent graduates of the University of North Texas, Denton.
