Ten Year Anniversary Exhibition
June 17 August 13, 2005
Opening Reception: Friday, June 17, 2005 from 6 8 PM
As the cultural environment in Dallas has grown, so has this gallery. For the past ten years Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery has promoted the medium of photography in art to this diverse and thriving metropolis. This exhibition will celebrate the first ten years by highlighting important works once exhibited in the gallery.
During the past decade we have seen phenomenal changes in the visual arts in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The Amon Carter Museum, home of one of the most important photography collections in the country, expanded its Phillip Johnson building. The Modern Art Museum of Ft. Worth built a new home for their growing art collection, designed by Tadao Ando. And the Nasher Sculpture Center, designed by Renzo Piano, opened next door to the Dallas Museum.
Meanwhile, Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery has been doing their part to offer some of the most important exhibitions in the area. They have ranged from the premiere exhibition of beautiful, but grotesque photographs by Joel-Peter Witkin, to the recent show of photographs by the highly regarded father of color photography, William Eggleston.
The gallery has always tried to vary exhibitions by featuring international, national and regional artists. Mostly 20th Century and contemporary artists have been exhibited, with some small 19th Century shows which offered great educational background. Most artists have been exhibited and or collected by museums all over the world.
Artist lectures have also been a part of our exhibitions including public talks by Bill Owens, Keith Carter, Michael Kenna, Jock Sturges, Shelby Lee Adams, Jan van Leeuwen, Misty Keasler, and Chema Madoz.
The goal of this gallery for the next ten years is to continue to exhibit important works that stimulate the burgeoning visual arts arena of Dallas/Ft. Worth. We would like to thank all who have helped us this past decade.
