A Designer’s Selection

Stuart Allen

Texas artist, Stuart Allen, is driven by science, algorithms, and light. His minimalist photographs reveal his fascination for the individual pixel when we are inundated with trillions of pixels every day in our smart phones and computers. He is interested in color spectrums that our eyes cannot see, but in a soap bubble the colors playfully appear. He makes use of his camera in airplane rides by photographing through his window, breaking down the images into a dot matrix, each image using a different algorithm to translate light, color and wonder.

Karl Blossfeldt

Karl Blossfeldt’s early 20th Century plant studies are classic! He was interested in Mother Nature’s genius for design. These magnified close-up images of stems, buds, fronds, and flowers powerfully display design in nature, which is the name of his book that compiled his work.

Vadim Gushchin

Vadim Gushchin, is influenced by the great Russian artist, Kazimir Malevich. His imagery is minimalist, influenced by Malevich and his Suprematist movement. He uses a table to place ordinary objects, favoring books, and places them in vertical, horizontal constructions, organized by color. The resulting photographs create mystery about the objects themselves.

California-based artist, Cheryl Medow, has been a photographer most of her life. More recently she has been fascinated with birds, prompting her to travel the world as a Birder. Fabio Del Re

Fabio Del Re admires the work of Italian painter, Giorgio Morandi. Fabio studies the vessels much like the painter might have, but with a camera. Rather than use color, he paints the still lives in black and white using techniques exclusive to photography.
