Earlie Hudnall, Jr.
b. 1946, Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Portrait by Ray Carrington
In honor of Black History Month, PDNB Gallery presents an online exhibition showcasing work from African American photographer Earlie Hudnall, Jr.
Earlie began photographing during the Vietnam War in the 1960’s, where he served as a Marine. After his service, Hudnall pursued a bachelor’s degree in art education at Texas Southern University. During this time, Earlie was commissioned to photograph Houston’s 3rd and 4th wards for the federal government’s Model Cities Program. This project encouraged him to continue photography. He stayed in Houston, TX, becoming the university photographer at Texas Southern while pursuing his personal work of photographing the everyday life of the black community in the South.
Earlie Hudnall’s first show with PDNB Gallery was in 1997, and has had multiple solo shows since, in the gallery and across the United States. His most recent shows include “As I See It” at the Grace Museum in Abilene, TX and “Homeward” at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, TX. His work has been published in multiple books, and his photographs are found in many private and public collections across the United States.
The following photographs are a selection from his multi-decade career. Please contact the gallery with any questions or inquiries.
