Portrait by Irving Kiely

artist bio

Lansky’s photographs were exhibited not only within her school setting, but also in San Francisco, California, Bloomington, Indiana and Dallas, Texas. She then gave up her pursuit of art after a divorce. A short career. But she did keep some prints, including exhibition prints as well as work that she submitted to Carlotta Corpron for studio review. Negatives and workbooks were also saved during her lifetime.

Since PDNB Gallery has been working with Ida’s Estate, her photographs have been placed in major museum institutions including the El Paso Museum of Art/El Paso, Texas; the Amon Carter Museum of Art/Fort Worth, Texas; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art/Santa Barbara, California; the Grace Museum/Abilene, Texas; the Centre Pompidou/Paris, France; and theNew York Public Library and some important private collections in the U.S. and abroad.

Few vintage prints remain in Lansky’s archive. Highlighted in this Viewing Room are signed and titled photographs that represent outstanding works in the collection. Some have recently come from a collector of abstract photography in the United States.

You are invited to view these experimental photographs  and learn more about Ida Lansky who was part of a small movement of women artists that worked in abstraction. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
