PDNB Gallery is moving to Denton, Texas!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, DFW METROPLEX
Gallery owners, Missy & Burt Finger, are announcing that their new location will be a return to their hometown of Denton, Texas. The location will be downtown, on the historic County Courthouse Square.
In the early 1990’s Burt & Missy were private art and antique watch dealers, based in an office building on the Square. In 1995 they decided to open a photo-based art gallery in Dallas, a city with a strong museum presence and a thriving art gallery community.
For thirty years Photographs Do Not Bend, later shortened to PDNB Gallery, grew and flourished in the local, regional, national and international art community. And all those years the owners continued to live in Denton in their beautiful home amidst an oak tree paradise.
PDNB’s new location will be on South Locust inside the Wells Fargo Bank Building, basement suite B07. This 9-floor structure was originally built in 1960 and added 5 floors in 1971.
In the past decade, especially the last five years, Denton has grown exponentially. The charming downtown area has become even more inviting by adding restaurants, wine bars, food trucks, music concerts, art events, auto shows, and holiday events.
Denton is also home to two major universities which both have strong Fine Arts schools. Texas Woman’s University was the college that Carlotta Corpron taught photography. During her tenure, the Fine Arts school became a very prominent force in modernism in Texas. PDNB has focused part of its program on this era of the 1940’s – 1960’s by exhibiting Corpron’s important abstract, experimental photographs along with some of her protégés.
The Fine Arts College of University of North Texas has a great history too. Burt Finger was witness to a spirited decade in the 1970’s in the art school. Later, during the tenure of Dean Robert Milnes, they opened a satellite art gallery on the Square, which continues to operate in their new location a block off of the Square.
Denton has always supported its vibrant art community with the Greater Denton Arts Council’s Center for Visual Art, now the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center.
PDNB looks forward to collaborating with all these institutions, as well as meeting local artists and art collectors.
PDNB Gallery will be settling into its new location this summer. In June they will be open with a group exhibition. This September, A very special opening celebrating its 30th anniversary will be scheduled in their new location.
Gallery hours will be announced once the move has completed. Meanwhile, we will be curating online exhibitions and will send special news announcements about the transition.
Thank you for all your support throughout the years! Plan a visit to Denton soon!
